Another Fallen Dartmoor Icon

Sadly another personal favourite bites the dust near Haytor, Dartmoor. I am very pleased to have photographed it before it was damaged. 

This may seem like an echo of the Rannock Moor trees and my own previous post about Coombestone infrared, but it was such an unusual tree that I feel like one sad hippy.

The branches are so thick that I can only assume it was severe wind that caused this to happen, pressure from a very top heavy canopy. In my wanderings across the UK, I have never found such an unusual tree, a tree that has grown along the ground. It was entirely unique, not just to Dartmoor but to all moors.

You can see below that both major branches have been snapped; the force to do this must have been fairly significant.
